ShiroDhara Bliss Therapy – Ayurvedic Therapy that Calms and Rejuvenates the Mind
ShiroDhara is one of our magic rejuvenation therapies. The steady, rhythmic pouring of oil induces a blissful state of consciousness called Turiya; a state of awareness that is neither fully conscious nor deep sleep. While in this Turiya state, we are able to witness and/or release impressions in our conscious and subconscious mind.
The brow and third eye center are associated with the fundamental endocrine glands (pituitary, pineal and hypothalamus), which regulate all hormonal secretions. These hormonal secretions are responsible not only for the autonomic responses which control digestion, breath, elimination, etc., but are also responsible for our moods and emotional states.
Shirodhara is meant to establish a state of parasympathetic repose and an ego-less state during which the innate intelligence of our body is revealed. By the time the treatment is over, the endocrine and immune systems are revitalized. You will emerge from your Bliss Therapy feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and looking 5 to 10 years younger.
Shirodhara is derived from the Sankrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow). We use use warm sesame oil or a blend of herbs mixed with coconut oil, water and buttermilk. For best results, we combine Shirodhara with partial Ayurvedic massage (abhyangam) and/or aromatherapy.
Shirodhara is a gentle yet effective treatment that stimulates blood circulation to the brain. Shirodhara works primarily on the mental sheath or “manomaya kosha” as it is referred to in Ayurveda. It is here that the mind clings to past impressions (sankaras) that create imbalanced desires and habitual patterns of behavior. These impressions are held captive in the limbic system of the emotional cortex of the brain.
Shirodhara helps in clearing mental fog and nagging thoughts including addictions, and allows the nervous system to calm down. In addition, herbs are used to relieve specific symptoms such as a common cold.
Shirodhara is used to assist the nervous system in healing itself. Its medicinal purposes include the treatment of depression, headaches, sinusitis, anxiety, allergic rhinitis, premature hair graying, hearing impairment, insomnia, skin problems including psoriasis, neurological disorders and vision problems.
